This book provides a thorough analysis of the potential benefits and dangers of AI for democracy. AI, as the transformative technology of the 21st century, is swiftly reshaping the democratic landscape. It offers extraordinary opportunities to enhance governance and administrative efficiency but also raise crucial questions regarding individual freedoms, civic participation, and the concentration of power.
AI is a double-edged sword that may yield adverse outcomes. The potential of AI is accompanied by considerable risks that require meticulous control and extensive societal awareness. There are apprehensions that adversarial actors may utilize AI-generated misinformation to manipulate political campaigns.
AI-generated microtargeting campaigns, although currently limited in scope, constitute a significant potential area for future development. Digital advocacy campaigns use technological tools and AI to galvanize support, enhance awareness, and effectuate political change.
